A couple of weeks ago the gas cap mechanism went bad. The cap would not close. I stuffed a plastic bac covered rag in the filler tube an rode to the Yamaha dealer in Millington, TN. After working out the spring a bit Tim the mechanic got it sort of working. He ordered new parts (back order) for the warranty work. Still waiting.
Last week the fuel system would vapor lock after riding and then restarting. A 5-10 minute cool down would get it running again. I started riding the Vespa and TMAX more because I can't stand being stranded.
For some inexplicable reason I took the z125 on an errand. At a stop light in a very dodgy part of MemF@ck the z125 stalled at idle and would not restart. I rolled it into a bit of shade at a U-Haul dealership. 96 degrees here today. I called Tim at Yamaha of Millington and he suggested pulling the plug. Okay not a simple task. Body work must be removed. The plug was pristine and that did not relieve any pressure.
another hour later I called him again and he suggested checking out the rollover valve in the tank venting system. It was all good. Then I got mid-evil on its ass.
I pulled the seat, side panels, and luggage compartment off the frame.
I pulled the gas tank out and turned it upside down. I removed the in=tank fuel pump. Man, that would be a 2 gallon tank if the fuel pump was external. That is one big sucker.
I started introducing positive and negative air pressure to the orifices and something in the pump went "CLICK." half an hour later I was home in the air conditioning.
I had to walk up the street to a dollar store for a $7.25 tool kit. Nice for an emergency like this one.
I bought a Yamaha because I don't want to be stranded. Dang!
The tool kit didn't have a Torx key so I had to bungie the luggage pan out of the way.
Gas tank bottom side up.
Fuel pump assembly.

This morning I rode the scooter sans the bodywork to the Yamaha dealership. Three blocks from said dealership the Zuma 125 stalled and would not restart. I pushed it close to the shop and David Lewis, the owner, ran out of the shop and took over pushing for me. That's service.
This morning a customer brought in a black Zuma 125 with 753 miles on it. He is having the same problem. I wonder if Yamaha got a bad batch of fuel pump assemblies? Anyway, it is Yamaha's problem now.
Cheers,

Art,
My C3 stalled on me at the corner of Poplar & Highland 2 weeks ago. It exhibited the same symptoms. I'm taking it to Memphis Honda/Yamaha this afternoon for a good once-over while I'm on a trip. I'll have them check the fuel pump as well; gotta love that YES option.
Thanks for the heads-up!
